Portrait in Berlin: A Men’s Portrait Session
In this post, I’m sharing about a men’s portrait session in Berlin. Tired of unflattering and bland corporate photos? Explore how the perfect mix of location, light & a skilled photographer can revolutionise your portraits. Dive into my recent men’s portrait session in Berlin, showcasing how intention and the city’s unique backdrop can create striking, natural photos that truly represent you.
Sound familiar?
Most men I work with tell me the same thing: they don’t have photos of themselves that they really like. The ones on their phone are mostly holiday snaps. The professional headshots from five years ago look too corporate. They’ve been using the same cropped group photo for everything because it’s the least bad option. Here’s the thing: it’s not that you’re not photogenic. It’s that no one has taken the time to photograph you properly. With intention. A bit magazine style, in the best light. In locations that tell a story rather than a blank studio wall. That’s exactly what I set out to create during a recent men’s portrait session in Berlin.
What We Created
My client wanted portraits that felt like him, confident but not overdone, striking but natural. Not corporate headshots. Not try-hard influencer poses. Something with substance.
So I scouted locations across Berlin that would give us a variety of visual interest and say this is Berlin. We shot at Alexanderplatz with the World Clock and TV Tower. The vibe of an old tube station. The quieter grandeur of Museum Island with views over the Fernsehen Tower. The Gorki Theatre for a contemporary vibe. Unter den Linden. A U-Bahn station placard for contrast. And finally, the Brandenburg Gate, the most recognisable Berlin landmark, with beautiful backlight. Each spot was chosen deliberately, not as a tourist checklist, but to create rhythm and contrast in the final collection of images.
The light that day was perfect for what I love most: backlighting. It’s the kind of light that gives portraits depth and a cinematic quality, separating you from the background and adding warmth to the edges. It makes people look powerful and at ease at the same time.

What This Means for You
When you book a session with me, this is what you get. Not a rushed twenty minutes against a plain backdrop. A considered experience, we discuss and plan the photo shoot ahead with a suggestion of locations to choose from, early morning timing to avoid the crowds is possible and/or timing planned around the best light, and my guidance throughout so you’re never left wondering what to do with your hands.
You’ll walk away with portraits that actually look like you. The version of you that you recognise when you’re feeling great. Images you’ll want to use, for LinkedIn, for your website, for dating apps, or simply to have for yourself.
If you’ve been putting this off because you hate having your photo taken, I get it. Most of my clients feel that way before we start. They don’t feel that way after.
Let’s create men’s portraits you’re proud of.
